Living like Vegan in a Non-veg world. Is it cool?
In the midst of both veg and non-veg food, being a vegan may sound tedious and too strict. By vegan, I mean ‘an ultimate, hard-core vegetarian who won’t tolerate any product derived from animal ingredient’. Although people are habitual to dairy products and meat/chicken, changing your eating choices can give you a unique experience to cherish.
Presenting top reasons to know why taking a vegan diet can be cool as well
Its heart friendly and cancer resistive
Heart diseases have been no. 1 enemy of human life. A vegan diet can help in tackling coronary heart disease, high blood pressure and obesity as the diet has low fat and zero cholesterol (only animal foods have cholesterol).
Studies suggest that a vegan diet rich in wholegrains, fruits and vegetables can stop reverse heart disease. Another public enemy for sure- cancer, can be prevented by immense amount of cancer-fighting properties in fresh fruits and vegetables.
Makes you Slim
A vegan diet is a boon for people concerned with weight loss. A vegan eats less total fat and very little saturated fat as most plant foods are low in fat, it is helpful for treating overweight and obese people who want to lose weight. It allows them to consume fewer calories while eating good-quality ingredients and abundant nutrition.
A plant- based vegan diet is full of veggies, fruits, nuts, seeds, grains and beans, all being fibre rich. A fibre rich diet often makes a person to eat less food and fewer calories. Helping digestive system to work better with healthy water balance is another feature of fibre.
Has Low Carbon Content
Raising animals for food production requires high usage of fresh water and fossil fuels during its farming and agriculture needs. With a vegan diet, your food requires less use of petroleum for transporting animals, running machines and high power factory farms. Local seasonal produce requires less refrigeration and fuel and so is more eco-friendly.
Kind to all Living Creatures
Gandhiji once said, ‘To my mind, the life of a lamb is no less precious than that of a human being, I should be unwilling to take the life of a lamb for the sake of human body’. No animal slaughtering if all feeds on vegan diet. As an enlightened soul, a vegan allows all creatures to persist in nature towards full self-expression.
Excellent source of Nutrition
Fresh plant foods are rich in minerals, vitamins, phytochemicals, enzymes and fibre which are vital in curing heart diseases and obesity as discussed before.
A vegan diet with variety of foods will easily provide adequate protein, healthy fats, complex carbohydrate and some calories for the average person. Relying on fresh fruits and vegetables with whole foods like beans and grains gives plenty of vital, nourishing energy.
Protects Natural Resources
Grazing animals for food often causes soil erosion (especially the precious top soil). Forests are being cut down in this regard leading to deforestation and greenhouse effect as well as loss of natural habitat for wildlife. These effects are hazardous to health of our entire planet and humanity. Choosing a vegan life is synonymous to healthy future of our planet.
Protecting Food Supply for all Humans
Its shocking that amount of water and arable lands required to produce a pound of meat for human consumption can be many gallons and acres respectively. This makes world resources becoming very strained. But a vegan don’t make this happen. More than 900 million people exist on earth under nourished. If we provide these plant edible foods to them instead of animals would end a lot of suffering for both people and animals and there would be no starvation/malnutrition.
Animal foods made through modern conventional methods are often injected with man-made drugs and toxins as animals are kept in densely populated conditions without fresh air, sunlight, etc. Providing external hormones and antibiotics for their fast growth is hazardous to human health when consuming such food.
A vegan diet, on the other hand, has no such drugs/antibiotics and very few chemical pesticides. In a polluted modern world, eating a non-toxic food is a huge relief.
Saves your Money
Most vegan foods are cheap even when purchasing in organic aisle. It also leads to financial savings by avoiding illness and long term diseases like heart disease, cancer, dementia, etc.
